During a brutal winter storm, a baby is found on the doorstep of Myra and Eldon Little Shield.  When no one claims the child, the couple decides to raise her as their own, naming her Mary Ann and decides to officially adopt her when she turns five.  When the adoption lawyer they hire is killed, attorney Vicky Holden is called to find the connection between the child and the dead lawyer, uncovering one of the darkest secrets Wind River has ever seen.
