    1.       Handed out newsletters.

    2.            Reminder to ask friends their opinion on our newest survey, and to get their names and contact info for the drawing.

    3.       Briefly discussed Next Newsletter.

    4.       As was agreed upon last month - Sarah got to choose the young adult collection request item for this month. She Chose: The Short Second Life of Bree Tanner : An Eclipse Novella - by Stephanie Meyer

    5.       Showed TAB new addition to collection - Michael Buble's album: Crazy Love.

    6.       Sarah checked out the Graphic Novel "Zebrafish" - by Peter H. Reynolds and fablevision. Asked for her opinion about it, she thought that the illustrations were really good, but the story was lacking.

    7.       Kiersten and Sarah helped explain some rules of soccer to the Tab advisor.

    8.       Upon Evan's request we discussed some ways for teens to make money. We will do it again next month when more members are present.

    1.       At the last meeting the TAB Advisor asked members to make one Artist Trading Card and bring it to this meeting. Willi and Sarah both brought cards to share with the group.

    2.       Discussed the next newsletter. Julie e-mailed a picture of Pittsburgh to be used. Kiersten came up with a new survey question: “What is your favorite candy?” Each TAB member present offered up their favorite candy and the public gets to pick between them.

    3.       TAB Advisor informed the group that as part of our Junior Library Guild Order that we receive one Graphic Novel for teens in each shipment.

    4.       The YA collection selection for the month of June as voted for by TAB members is “Drums, Girls, and Dangerous Pie” by Jordan Sonnenblick.

    5.       TAB began decorating the YA wall with posters and drawings.

    6.       TAB Advisor needs to see what he can do about getting a White Board.

    7.       Next month Evan would like to talk about “How to make a million dollars in a day”

Meeting Start – 2:00 p.m.

 

Discussion:

 

    1.       Collected YA wall decorations. Need to ask the director for glue dots. We will place what decorations we have on the wall during the next meeting.

    2.       The TAB Newsletter survey will end on May 31, 2010, and the TAB advisor will draw a winner from the participants after that.

    3.       The TAB advisor wants to format the next newsletter and have it out before the end of June. Need to have reviews, writing, new survey question, and art in two weeks tops.

    4.       TAB members decided on dates for the Teen Summer Book Club. Book 1 will be discussed Friday, July 16th 2-3 p.m., and the second club will be discussed August 20th 2-3 p.m.

    5.       Willi selected 3 books to look at for the second book club selection, and then the group voted for one. Their choice was “Turnabout” by Margaret Peterson Haddix.

    6.       TAB advisor requested that everyone make one Artist Trading Card (size 2 ˝ x 3 ˝”) and bring it to the next meeting.

    7.       Date for the Artist Trading Card swap was set for August 14th 2-3 p.m.

    8.       The YA Collection Selection for this month was Adam Lambert – “For Your Entertainment”

    9.       Next TAB meeting date set for June 12th at 2 p.m.

    10.   TAB reminded that the next movie series night is June 11th. We are showing the new “Alice in Wonderland”.

Discussion:

1.       TAB Advisor informed group that 2 books that they ordered arrived.

2.       Julie brought in Twilight pictures for YA wall. Encouraged other members to bring in there items.

3.       Discussed upcoming newsletter. Asked Julie to do a book review. Asked Kiersten to come up with a survey question. Encouraged all to submit poetry, stories, and art if they wished.

4.       Discussed Artist Trading Card event. TAB advisor showed examples of what they look like.

5.       Discussed TEEN Summer Reading Book Club. Voted on the first of two books for the summer. TAB has chosen the book “Money Hungry” – by Sharon Flake

6.       May’s Movie Night is to be voted on by the public. TAB advisor gave group opportunity to cast their votes.

7.       TAB voted on what music CD to purchase for the YA collection. Kiersten suggested the Alice in Wonderland Soundtrack and that is what was chosen. (If for some reason it is unavailable we will get Adam Lambert)

8.       Sarah Suggested that at the next meeting we decide what day to decorate the YA wall.

Discussion:

  1. Introduced new member – Julie Day

  2. TAB informed that they can decorate the YA wall.

  3. Took suggestions on how to decorate it: Personal Art, Posters (Twilight poster suggested), Information Board (like for the movie of the month), Cardboard Stand ins, and a Bright Border.

  4. Began to discuss next newsletter.

  5. Sarah volunteered to review “Shiver” by Maggie Stiefvater.

  6. Evan volunteered to do another review.

  7. TAB encouraged to bring in Artwork for newsletter.

  8. TAB advisor proposed some YA summer reading programs. The first was “Artist Trading Card swap”: teen artists create trading card size pieces of art to share with others. The idea is to get to know other teen artists.

  9. The second suggestion is a teen book club. The TAB Advisor in conjunction with the TAB Group will choose 2 books to read and discuss together. The meetings would be set for mid-July and Mid August. One book has already been suggested: The Lightning Thief.

  10. March’s purchase request as voted on by TAB members is “Maximum Ride: Fang” by James Patterson.

  11. The TAB Advisor has suggested that members think of CD’s that they would like us to purchase for the next meeting.

Discussion:

1.     TAB Advisor informed group that we were finally able to get Vampire Knight Vol. 2.

2.     TAB Advisor also inform group that we would have a prize drawing for our survey questions as Willy suggested.

3.     TAB chose the following movies to show during our Movie Night Series: “Where the Wild Things are” – PG – Showing Friday, March 5th and “Planet 51” – Animated – PG – Showing Friday, March 19th.

4.      Evan suggested we purchase the following book for the YA collection, and the rest of TAB agreed: “Kingdom Keepers #2”

5.     Decided to talk about planning a public game day for next month.

6.     Handed out PA Wildlife Art Contest Flyer.

7.     Next Meeting – The next meeting will be scheduled for Saturday, March 20th, 2010 at 2:00.

8.     Finally we ate pizza and played Wii games on the big screen and projector.

Discussion:

1.     The library finally received the Uglies series by Scott Westerberg. So, TAB will get to check this out before anyone else.

2.     Sarah and Kiersten turned in their book reviews.

3.     Willy turned in his Survey question options.

4.     TAB voted on which survey question they would like to include in the next newsletter. “Which is your favorite Pittsburgh sports team?” and “What is your favorite type of pet?” The vote was a tie and was decided by a coin flip. “Which is your favorite Pittsburgh sports team?” won and will be in the newsletter.

5.     TAB gave their answers for favorite sports team to be included in the survey, and we discussed what ways we could get more answers to the survey. The ideas were Ballot’s found at the library, Ask your friends, and inclusion on our internet site. Willy also suggested we offer a prize drawing for participants. Which the TAB advisor will look into. TAB was made fully aware that members of TAB would be ineligible for prizes.

6.     YA collection selection was made with all members voting for a book called Bewitched.

7.     Sarah wanted to know if we could decorate the Young adult wall. The TAB advisor will check with the Director.

8.     Next Meeting – The next meeting will be scheduled for Saturday, February 6, 2010 at 2:00. TAB Advisor is determined to figure out the wii/projector set up.

After the Meeting:

The TAB Advisor borrowed a wii system with compatible AV wires, and it works fine. So Next month we are all set!

Vampire Knight 2 is still on back order.

TAB Advisor could not find the Book requested by the YA group for January.

Discussion:

  1. Current Newsletters – TAB Advisor requested that members take at least one newsletter and hand it out to someone they know.
  2. Upcoming Newsletter – Assignments for NL pieces were assigned. Kiersten and Sarah have each volunteered to write a YA book review. Willy was assigned to come up with a fun survey question for teens.
  3. Program Ideas – TAB would like to have a Nintendo Wii game night/afternoon on a Saturday in January. Refreshments will be provided and other games will be used to keep people busy while they wait to play the Wii. Permission and approval for this program needs to come from their parents (to use their Wii systems) and from the library director.
  4. YA collection purchase suggestions: Sarah nominated the book "Specials" by Scott Westerfeld, and since she seemed so excited about it the rest of the group voted for it.
  5. Next Meeting – The next meeting will be scheduled for Saturday, December 19th at 2:00 p.m. TAB members were so excited about the Wii game night that they wanted to have a private Wii session just for TAB members. With that in mind all 3 members present voted to make Decembers meeting 1 ˝ hours long. We will take care of TAB business and then have fun playing Wii. (Pending parental approval and the library directors approval)

After the Meeting:

The library director approved The TAB (Wii) Meeting and the TAB Game night/day featuring the Nintendo Wii System.

TAB advisor found out that "Specials" by Scott Westerfeld was the 3rd book in a trilogy called "Uglies", so he requested the set as our monthly selection. It may take a little longer to get but we’ll see.

Just for fun we started out by playing a couple rounds of Scattergories. Abby won a coupon for free food at SHEETZ.

Discussion:

  1. Volunteering – The TAB advisor informed the group that there has been no change in the teen volunteering status, and according to the director we aren’t likely to see any change. It is unfortunate, but the staff’s hands are tied.
  2. TAB advisor handed out fliers for writing contests. One is sponsored by the Library of Congress and Target, the other by VOYA.
  3. TAB was reminded to look on the libraries website to find the agenda for the next meeting’s agenda.
  4. TAB given opportunity to vote on what to show for the Movie Night Series in December . The choices were "Shorts", "Night at the Museum II: Battle of the Smithsonian", and "G-Force". There was one vote for "Shorts" and two votes for "Night at the Museum II". "Night at the Museum II" it will be.
  5. TAB briefly discussed the possibility of showing the movie "New Moon" when it comes out next summer.
  6. YA Purchase Request – TAB members suggested 2 CD’s for purchase consideration this month: "303" and "Owl City". There was one vote for "303" and two votes for "Owl City". "Owl City" it will be.
  7. Next Meeting – The next meeting will be scheduled for Saturday, November 14th at 2:00 p.m. All meetings during the school year will be scheduled for Saturdays unless TAB members decide otherwise.

After the Meeting:

Found out that some of the movies we voted on for December showing were not covered under our movie license. So we had to go back to the drawing board, and look for a different movie.

Discussion:

  1. Provided TAB with free Twilight Pictures from the library’s recent set purchase.
  2. Volunteering – There has been no change in the teen volunteering status, but there was a board of directors meeting Thursday, September 17th at which time all board members received a packet including your mother’s letters as well as hand out entitled 10 reasons to reinstate volunteering which was compiled by the TAB advisor.
  3. Madden Tournament – Cancelled due to lack of support. Teens still don’t know what we offer here, because many of them aren’t coming in. TAB agreed to place flyers on their school’s student Bulletin Boards.
  4. Title for Newsletter – One suggestion "Fanatic Newsletter". No title agreed on.
  5. TAB given opportunity to vote on what to show for movie night in November. The choices were "UP!" and "Star Trek". TAB unanimously selected "UP!"
  6. Program suggestions – Scrabble Tournament and wii tournaments. No specifics given. Since most of our TAB members are girls they feel that we should work on a program that would be of more interest to girls.
  7. YA Purchase Request – TAB decided unanimously to request "Vampire Knight: Vol. 2" for the YA Graphic Novel Collection.
  8. Next Meeting – The next meeting will be scheduled for Saturday, October 17th at 2:00 p.m. All meetings during the school year will be scheduled for Saturdays unless TAB members decide otherwise.

Just for Fun:

To loosen everyone up TAB had a quick Connect Four Tournament.

Discussion:

  1. Volunteering – There has been no change in the teen volunteering status as there has not been a library board meeting. The TAB advisor briefly explained the dilemma to Cassandra who is new to the group.
  2. Newsletter – Sarah turned in her book review on the book "Lock and Key" by Sarah Dessen. Kiersten lost her review but will quickly have another one ready. Abby did not show up so we don’t have a survey question as of yet.
  3. Last month’s purchase request – The TAB Advisor informed the group that their selection for July (Lady Gaga CD) has been ordered and that it would be in soon.
  4. Movie Night – TAB is definitely presenting a movie on August 21st at 6:00. TAB unanimously decided to show "Twilight" pending the Director’s approval. As a back-up choice TAB chose "Race to Witch Mountain".
  5. Newsletter 2 – Sarah suggested having survey’s in our newsletter about which movies teens would rather see. Everyone thought it was a good idea.
  6. Young Adult Collection – The TAB advisor suggested that since we selected music the last two months that TAB should select a book or Graphic Novel this time. The following choices were presented: Vampire Knight Vol. 2, 13 Reasons Why, Once a Witch, Dull Boy, A Demon’s Lexicon, Just Another Hero. Cassandra suggested "A Demon’s Lexicon", and the rest of the group agreed.
  7. TAB Advisor Suggestions – The TAB Advisor informed the group that he would like to hold a game night for teens. TAB thought that this was a good idea. They felt it should obviously include free food and prizes. The prizes didn’t need to be elaborate, Kiersten offered a lava lamp that she never uses as a prize.
  8. Next Meeting – TAB members felt that with school starting at the end of August that TAB Meetings during the school year should be on Saturday. The attending members all agreed. So the next meeting was set for Saturday, September 12, 2009 at 1:00. TAB will discuss more about a game night at the next meeting.

After the Meeting:

The Library Director agreed to allow us to show twilight. So tell any teens you know who might want to attend to call us at 445-4011 to sign up.

It was also determined that the Tony’s Schedule could not be changed. So the September TAB meeting will be moved to Saturday, September 19th, 2009 at 1:00 p.m.

To see who gets Lady Gaga first when it comes in the TAB advisor drew names from a hat. Members will be called in the following order:
