2010 "Dinner & a Movie" Summer Reading Incentive Program June 11th - August 20th, 2010
As part of the Summer Reading Schedule the Mary S. Biesecker Public Library is once again hosting the "Dinner & a Movie" reading incentive program for grades 3-6. (If you going into 3rd or 7th grade during the upcoming school year you are still welcome to participate.) Participation is easy! Just sign up for a library card (parent must sign for you), check out and read one of our designated books, return the book, and then prove that you read it. Every time you do this you get entered in one of our bi-weekly entries. The more books you read the more chances you can win. On Friday, August 20th we will wrap up the program by having a reading awards ceremony complete with Grand Prize Drawings, certificates of award, pizza & drinks, and the showing of a movie on our Lillias (Buckey) Boose Memorial Projector System. How to Participate in the "Dinner & a Movie" program:
Dates: The "Dinner & a Movie" reading incentive program will run for 10 weeks. The program will start on June 11th and end on August 20th, 2010. June 11th is the first day that reading sheets can be accepted. Children ages 8 – 12 (grades 3-6) can participate. We will accept children age 7, but they must be able to read books at a 3rd grade level or above. Books: Children must read books from the junior fiction, young adult fiction, Junior Series, and YA/J Picks shelves. Starting this year we will also allow the reading of junior and young adult non-fiction. For a non-fiction book to count it must exceed 50 pages. Picture books do not count. Proof of Reading: If a book is checked out off of the YA/J Picks shelves just answer the questions in the back of the book on a sheet of paper. Books taken from the other shelves require that a brief summary of the book be written, along with an explanation of why you did or did not like the book, on a sheet of paper. Make sure that your name, library card #, and phone # are on your paper and turn these in at the circulation desk when you return your book. All entries should be turned in by August 19th. Drawings: Prize drawings will be held every other week for 10 weeks. To be entered in these drawings just read a book and turn in your answers/summaries. Participants will receive one entry for every book read. If you read a book over 200 pages you will receive a bonus entry in these drawings. The Grand Prize Drawings will be held on August 20th, 2010. Participants will receive multiple entries into this drawing based on pages read. You cannot be entered if you do not read at least 100 pages. This year’s Grand Prizes include: Tickets to see the Altoona Curve, A Photograph from the Pittsburgh Steelers, a Diary of a Wimpy Kid Standee (featured on our Children's page), Books, and DVD’s. "Dinner & a Movie" Party: The Grand Prize party will be held on August 20th, 2010 at 5:00 p.m. Each reader will be invited to attend with one family member. There will be presentation of achievement certificates w/book for the top reader, Grand prize drawings, pizza and drinks, and a showing of a children's movie.
